Walking in Christ's Victory through Recovery - Righteousness vs. Sin | 1 John 3:7-8

What if getting through another day is no longer the whole story God is writing in your life? You have learned how to survive the storm, recognize the warning signs, and make it through hours you once thought would destroy you. Those victories matter. But hear this invitation with the tenderness it deserves: in Jesus Christ, you are also being called into fellowship, freedom, and a life that bears fruit. Survival brought you to this moment. Grace invites you to discover what it means to thrive.

Perhaps your journey began in a Twelve-Step meeting, Celebrate Recovery, an Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families fellowship, a counseling office, or a church where someone finally listened without turning your pain into a sermon. Perhaps it began with a desperate prayer when every familiar way of coping had stopped working. Our paths into recovery differ, and the help we receive can take many forms. Here at Sacred Sobriety, we bring that journey into fellowship with Christ, trusting Him to reshape how we understand ourselves, our struggles, and our future.

There is a necessary season of learning to accept life on life's terms. We stop arguing with reality, acknowledge what we cannot control, and begin taking responsibility for what we can. Thriving carries that honesty into a deeper relationship: we face reality while abiding in the One who has overcome the world. Our purpose becomes larger than maintaining a routine or completing a program. We practice recovery as people receiving and living out what Christ gives us: forgiveness, belonging, strength for obedience, and hope that suffering cannot finally defeat.

Anchor Verse

“Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”

— 1 John 3:7–8, KJV

These are searching words, but the voice addressing us begins with “little children.” John speaks with pastoral concern, calling beloved people away from deception and toward the life of their Savior. We can receive his warning without forgetting his assurance that those who sin have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. The same letter that confronts sin also teaches us to confess it and receive cleansing. We will keep those truths together as we consider what overcoming means.

Let's get to the message. Moving from surviving to thriving involves a change in where we place our confidence and how we practice our faith. Christ becomes the center of our recovery, and our daily disciplines become ways of responding to His presence. We learn to say, with humility and conviction, “I belong to Jesus Christ. His grace is at work in me. Today I can take the next faithful step, and my suffering will not have the final word.”
